Not only did they lose the match and put themselves in a tough position for the return leg on Wednesday in Kansas City, they lost three key players to injury tonight.
The Rapids also were the victim of some questionable decisions by the referee Toledo.
The key one was the red card on Marshall. In watching the play, Marshall barely has contact with Bunbury. In fact, Bunbury is flopping before Marshall is there. A horrible decision, even the Fox Soccer commentators were questioning the call.
They foul called when Folan was injured probably shouldn't have been. There was no contact, he just put a lot of pressure on that knee.
Kimura's probably should have been a foul. It was a tackle, but it was somewhat reckless. I've seen it called before.
Kamara should have been shown a red in the first half. He threw a punch towards Pickens. That is not supposed to happen and he should have been in locker room.
But a bigger problem for the Rapids is their lack of offense. The last few games they have struggled to finish.
Tonight Kandji should have finished the ball that was saved towards end of match. He just needed to elevate it a little more.
Right before end of match, Nyassi just needed to put it on frame. If he does he probably scores.
They need to score goals on Wednesday. The good thing, they have been playing better on the road than at home.
Go out and bring it home Rapids! Get back to the Eastern Conference Finals!
Go Rapids!
With Kilkenny on tap and the Shepards Pie I was quite satisfied. The Irish dancing and music was a plus.
This entire Tebow infatuation is just nuts. He isn't even the 2nd string QB and some obsessive fans want him to start over Kyle Orton.
What are they smoking? Some are even purchasing a billboard to try and influence John Fox, the head coach. Give me a break, Fox has been through more than this.
While he was a good QB at Florida, he is still learning the task in the NFL. Yes he is more mobile than Orton, but his pass selection and accuracy still needs work and his preference to run first will get him killed in the NFL. Where he used to run by players in college, he'll get hammered.
Everyone needs to realize that it wasn't Orton's fault, except maybe the dropped ball towards the end of the game that killed a drive. There was no running game. Nada, zilch.
If they want to do anything in the NFL this year, they need to develop a running game and stick to it. Otherwise they opposing defense will just pin their ears back and come after Orton.
Tebow will learn and get better and maybe someday be the starter. But now you just need to except Orton and cheer for him too. You are just hurting this team if you start chanting Tebow during the game.
I'm extremely frustrated by tonights game tonight and how the Colorado Rapids turned a home field advantage over to the opposition tonight, for some reason that I and many don't understand. That should never have happened.
Now granted, Santos schooled the Rapids 4-1. The Rapids didn't look good and it could have been a lot worse.
But in the stands, it was horrible. It is something that has been building all year and it started to build during the first CCL game last month but it really came out last night.
